Omg. Look at the way Brittany nuzzles into Santana in the top one. JUST LOOK. That is the definition of intimacy. Look at the smile that spreads across her face just from being in Santana’s arms even though she knows this hug isn’t what she wants it to be. Even after what she’s just said, Santana still has to backtrack and establish them as best friends. It’s not the hug of two lovers finally finding their way to each other. I bet she knows how terrified Santana is. I bet she can feel her trembling and that’s why she starts to rock them gently as she whispers out “Yeah, me too.” That’s not an appropriate response to Santana’s statement but it’s still perfect because Brittany knows what Santana means. She knows she means “You’re my everything,” and because she knows that, Brittany smiles.
She tries to soothe Santana in the best way she can without revealing their intimacy further to the bustling hallways. She can’t kiss her. She can’t reach out and stroke her cheek lovingly, so she squeezes. She smiles into Santana’s shoulder and she just holds her tight within her arms. She wants to be that solid thing that Santana can hold onto and understand that this is what she’s working for. This is what the heartache and struggle is all about. This moment. In Brittany’s arms. That’s what she’s fighting for.
And she did.
